Описание семинара:

When we teach new words or present a new grammar structure we need to make sure all the students understand these. How do we do it without using the students’ L1 and why? One of the most popular techniques is CCQs, which are introduced and practiced on such courses as Cambridge CELTA and BKC CET. In this session, we’ll look at this technique and other ways of checking understanding. We will also discuss other benefits of using English for the clarification stage, including developing the students’ ability to paraphrase.

Good teaching consists of many things. Rapport. Student centredness. Really attractive materials. A keen understanding of English. And more! The list is almost endless. But we should not overlook the importance of techniques, expertly wielded by a teacher, which is why courses like Cambridge CELTA and BKC CET put such a focus on helping participants develop and hone them. In this session we will look at two such techniques, useful for conveying the meaning of language and working on pronunciation, all the while making it clear how they fit into the bigger picture of communicative language teaching, putting students at the heart of our lessons, raising their involvement and enjoyment, exploiting materials, utilising our knowledge of the language, and having fun!

Exams are an inevitable reality in many people's lives, and therefore in a teacher’s life too, as we seek to support students in getting the best grade possible. It is helpful, therefore, to understand what language or language skills different exams and exam tasks are trying to target, and reassuring to appreciate that they also often support real life language development too.

This session looks at common tasks seen on exams such as Cambridge exams, IELTS, and the Russian State Exams, and suggests ideas for preparing students for exam success which also prepare students for effective speaking in real life.
